Love the Helvetica

5.30.2009 | 0 Comments

I thought I would have some fun with some new pictures taken by my buddy Brady Puryear and my favorite font Helvetica.
Helvetica was developed in 1957 by Max Miedinger with Eduard Hoffmann at the Haas’sche Schriftgiesserei (Haas type foundry) of Münchenstein, Switzerland.
I use Helvetica is almost everything I create. You can see an awesome film about Helvetica at their website.

For me web design is more than looks, its about functionality and flow. A good website gives it’s users direction which in return will give the entity customers and viewers.

42 Amazing Business Cards

5.25.2009 | 0 Comments

In today’s tech-oriented world of short attention spans it is more important than ever to make a compelling first impression. A brilliant business card that speaks to your profession, serves some unusual function or that transforms into something else can be a great way to grab attention and inspire those you meet. Organized by category here are 42 extremely creative business card designs. Some of these are old, some new, but all are still amazing examples of out-of-the-box thinking in business card design.

1) Constructable Designs – Business Cards You Have to Build

A card with some assembly required forces the recipient to spend more time with it – which is a good thing if you want to avoid getting lost in the shuffle. Some of these designs are fairly simple and create simple forms or reveal messages when distorted while others are virtual toys or art projects in their own right.

2) Organic Designs – Calling Cards You Can Watch Grow

What could be a more dynamic way to leave your mark than handing out something designed to actually grows and changes on its own over time? These can be used to advertise landscaping services or other plant products or simply to leave a lasting (and evolving) impression on the recipient.

3) Pragmatic Designs – Calling Cards You Can Actually Use

Instead of sticking people with another flimsy piece of paper to lose in their wallet why not give your business card a secondary function? This can be as simple as making a clothes pin, a bottle opener or a ruler or as extravagant as giving out entire USB devices with your information printed on them.

4) Professionally Themed – Designs that Speak to Your Occupation

The message on a card design doesn’t necessarily have to be the print on the paper – it can be much bolder and embodied in the crafting of the object itself. Examples include: dog tags for an animal adoption program, a map that folds out and leads you to a map shop, fake medicine for the ‘brand doctor,’ and a head-hunter’s business card you are instructed to eat after reading in case your employer were to catch you with it.

5) Creative Designs – More Cards that Don’t Fit the Mold

Of course not every business card is going to fit neatly into a category – and all the better for those trying to think outside of the box (after all, you don’t really want to copy everyone else right?). These designs range from simple to complex, artistic to obscure, but offer a bit more inspiration for those of us still sorting out what we want.

New Bio Photo by Brady Puryear

5.24.2009 | 0 Comments

When running a business I feel its just as important to sell yourself as it is to sell your services. I try to do post bio photos, videos, or “portfolio type” advertising as much as possible. As a designer and entrepreneur people want to know who you really are, what you really look like, what’s your style, etc. So lesson of the week: Your clients are not only purchasing your skills they are purchasing you. Be sure to showcase yourself almost as much as you showcase your work. Photo compliments of Brady Puryear.

I got a new Camera Today

5.22.2009 | 0 Comments

Well I made the move today and purchased the Canon 40D. Istepped it up a bit. I needed to make the upgrade and I did my research a found that the 40D for the price was the best buy. Still with a 10.1 megapixel (like my old camera) it shoots amazing shots, it has an ISO range up to 3200 and shoots 6FPS (frames per second). So hopefully I will have some new posts up to show you guys soon.

Staind & Hoobastank Show at Club Nokia

5.19.2009 | 0 Comments

Well the show was awesome. I have shot Hoobastank before and they always put on a descent show. Staind on the other hand was fantastic! That guy has such a profound voice. He sounds exactly the same as he does on CD it was great. As for the photos… Club Nokia has really crazy lighting so all of us photographers were really struggling. As I said in my earlier post about the Blue October show their a few months back, the lighting is much too intense (for photography at least). Here are some of my favs.

Riverside Zerona Website

5.17.2009 | 0 Comments

Riverside Zerona is a company that needed a clean professional look for their new “non surgical” lipo laser. I ended up going with simple navigation as as well as a clean slide viewer on the home page to give it a simple feel. We also added a blog and video page to easy convey the process to his customers.

Finding Balance in 3D Design

5.17.2009 | 0 Comments

I have been getting into fine tuning some of my 3D work, and you know what? There are quite a few steps in getting something to look real slick. I think I could have made this one pop a little more than I did but it took me about an hour to get the W looking the way it does. It kind of reminds me of the “Wu Tang” sign…

New Look for Thresh Hold

5.14.2009 | 0 Comments

Creating an identity for a company is very hard. I have been working on colors, shapes, fonts, textures, etc for months now and I really feel like I am getting closer. I like this feel. The question is will this look transfer over to the web, banners, flyers, brochures, and others materials easily? We will find out. Would love to hear some feedback.

More Band Photos to Come

5.13.2009 | 0 Comments

So here is a shoot I did of Blue October a few weeks back. Honestly, it was some of my worst shooting. The lighting there sucked and the photo pit was super small. But I am shooting the same venue “Club Nokia” next week for Stained and Hoobastank. I will be more prepared this time around. Keep checking back for more photos.
